Ken Ong, MD, Director, Clinical Information Systems, North Shore - Long Island Jewish Health System discusses pearls from several chapters in the HIMSS 2007 Book of the Year titled Medical Informatics: An Executive Primer. Dr. Ong addresses what the CMIO should do to get an organization ready for implementation of an electronic health record; the role of the CMIO in helping to prevent the failure of an HIT project; and his thoughts on how the results of the recent presidential election may change the landscape of healthcare as it relates to the EHR.
