Patricia L. Hale, MD, PhD, FACP, Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine at New York Medical College and Deputy Director of the Office of Health Information Technology Transformation, New York State Department of Health, discusses the recent focus on and interest in e-prescribing. Dr. Hale is also the author of the book, Electronic Prescribing for the Medical Practice: Everything You Wanted to Know but Were Afraid to Ask. She addresses the current state of implementation, the advantages of electronic prescribing, and stand-alone e-prescribing versus a full EHR. She provides an overview of the various incentives and multitude of resources available to physicians considering adoption. Dr. Hale also suggests ways to overcome some of the challenges practices may face when implementing an electronic prescribing system. The interview was conducted by William F.
